Privacy Policy

Effective 13 October 2026

Taklbox is a fishing log. This policy explains what it knows about you, what leaves your phone, and what never does. It is written to be read, not to be survived. Taklbox is operated by Taklbox LLC, a Florida limited liability company ("we", "us"), which is responsible for the data this policy describes.

The short version

Taklbox keeps your log in your account so it survives a new phone, and so you can share catches when you want to. A private catch's location is never shown to anyone else. Not to other anglers, not in the feed, not on any map another person can see. Only a catch you choose to share with its location appears where you caught it, and you can share a catch with no place at all.

What stays on your device

Species identification, length measurement, weight estimation, the legality verdict and the check that keeps explicit photos out all run on the device. They work with no signal and no connection.

Full-resolution photographs, depth data from the camera, and the age range you give when you set the app up stay on the phone and are not transmitted.

What your account holds

You need an account to use Taklbox. With it, we store:

  • Your email address, and either your Sign in with Apple identity or a password. A password is kept only as a one-way hash: no one can read it, including us. If you choose Apple's private relay, we never see your real address.
  • Your profile: name, username, photo and bio, if you set them, and your app settings.
  • Your catches: species, length, weight, date and time, where you caught it, bait and gear, notes, the legality verdict, and the moon, air pressure and tide at the time, so they can be restored on another device.
  • Photographs of your catches, at reduced resolution.
  • What you do with other anglers: catches you share, comments and the GIFs you choose, likes, follows, blocks and reports.
  • Notifications: the address Apple gives us to reach your phone, and which notifications you want.
  • Taklbox Pro: whether your account subscribes and until when, which shows as a badge on your profile. Apple takes the payment; we never see your card.

What we never do with your locations

Precise coordinates are stored so your map and your log work across your own devices. They are protected so that only your account can read them.

When you share a catch with its location, other anglers see it on the map exactly where you caught it, and the feed names the region. When you share a catch without its location, the shared copy carries no place at all: no region, no coordinates. That choice is a setting you make once and can change per catch. A private catch is never on the feed or the shared map, and the shared view of the database cannot return its coordinates. Photographs you share or export have their GPS metadata stripped before they leave the app.

What your catches teach the app

By creating an account you agree that the catches you log may be counted, together with other anglers', to work out what is biting, where, and on what.

Here is exactly what is counted, so that this is specific rather than vague: the species, the bait and the gear you used, the moon, barometric pressure and tide at the time, the date and time, and where the catch was made. Every catch you log is counted, whether or not you share it. What you write in notes and comments is never counted.

What comes back out is never one person's fishing. Results are combined across anglers and coarsened before anyone sees them: catches are grouped into map cells roughly a kilometer across, and a cell or a bait appears only once several different anglers agree. Your exact coordinates, your name and your photographs are never part of what is shown, and no result can be traced back to one person or one spot.

Some features built on these totals, such as hot-spot maps and bait recommendations, are part of a paid subscription.

Deleting your account removes your catches from every total the next time the totals are rebuilt.

Who else is involved

  • Apple, for Sign in with Apple, Apple Maps, payment for Taklbox Pro, delivering notifications, and delivering the app. When the app asks your age, Apple shares only an age range, and only if you agree.
  • Supabase, which hosts accounts, the database and photo storage.
  • Postmark, which sends the codes that confirm an email address and reset a password, so it receives your email address and the message.
  • The National Weather Service, asked for the forecast where you are, so it receives that location. Nothing else about you is included.
  • NOAA, asked for tide predictions by public gauge identifier. The gauge is worked out on your phone, so your coordinates are not sent.
  • GIPHY, only when you open the GIF picker: it receives what you search for and which GIFs you see, tap and send, with a random identifier made for this install. It never receives your account, name or email.
  • Wikipedia, asked for a species photograph by scientific name. Nothing about you is included in the request.
  • Amazon, only if you open a tackle link: the link opens Amazon with our Associates tag, and Amazon's own privacy notice covers what you do there. As an Amazon Associate, Taklbox earns from qualifying purchases.

There is no advertising and no analytics service in Taklbox. It does not track you across other apps or websites and does not sell or rent your data to anyone.

Permissions the app asks for

  • Camera, to photograph a catch.
  • Location, to record where a catch was made and which rules apply to it. You can turn this off and log catches without it.
  • Photo library, to import an existing photo and, if you ask, to save a copy.
  • Notifications, to tell you about likes, comments and new followers. You choose which, and you can turn them off.
  • Motion and fitness, to record air pressure when you land a fish. iOS uses that label for any access to the barometer; Taklbox reads air pressure and nothing else. You can turn it off under Menu → Measurement.

Keeping and deleting your data

Your catches are kept until you delete them.

Under Menu → Account, Delete all my data removes every catch, photo, measurement and setting from your device and from our servers. Delete account removes your account and everything it holds: catches, photographs, shared posts, comments, likes and follows. Both are immediate and neither can be undone.

Your rights

Wherever you live, you can ask us for a copy of what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. If you are in the UK, EU or California, you have these rights by law, and we apply them to everyone regardless.

Children

Taklbox is not for children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their information. The app asks your age before an account is made and does not let anyone under 13 create one. If you believe a child has given us data, contact us and we will remove it.

Changes

If this policy changes in a way that affects what we do with your data, we will tell you in the app before the change takes effect. We will not apply new uses retroactively to data collected under an earlier version of this policy.
